Everyone thinks about going on the ultimate Expedition
or Exploration. You've hiked, paddled, and peddled in
your own region, and now you need something different;
something to get the blood flowing. Why not consider
planning your next expedition or exploration in another
country?
The Award encourages you to step out of your comfort
zone so that you can learn about yourself, the world
around you, and reach your highest potential. The idea
is exciting, but it leads to a lot of questions: Where
can we go? How are we going to get there? Who will plan
our expedition or exploration?
6-Rivers Wilderness Adventures
provides opportunities and supports participants at
all levels of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
Program by offering the following trips:
Preliminary Training -
As the first step in the Expedition phase, these four-to-five
hour workshops give the participants an opportunity
to learn about many facets of camping in a controlled
setting.
Practice Trips - This
phase is intended to prepare individuals for an overnight
journey.
Overnight Qualifying Expeditions
& Explorations - Participants practice
what they have learned in order to promote self-reliance,
personal growth and leadership through a journey of
discovery.
Residential Projects –
Develop social adaptability through involvement with
others in a group setting.
Community Service Projects
– Encourage participants to take responsibility
and to become contributing member of their community.
6-Rivers has many community partnerships that support
youth in completing their community service hours.

and Exploration |
Canoe
/ Kayaking Expeditions
Late spring and early summer bring stunning
landscapes to the Wolf
and Pickerel Rivers, leading down to
French
River Provincial Park. Depending on
the length of your expedition, Georgian
Bay can be reached in conjunction with
these routes, or as part of other routes.
The Gibson-MacDonald loop is an equally
breathtaking mix of river and lake paddling,
along with an awe-inspiring lookout point.
With advanced booking, tripping in Algonquin
and Killarney Provincial Parks can also
be arranged.

Hiking
expeditions
The Bruce Trail has one of the most picturesque
shorelines anywhere. There's no doubt that
it leaves a lasting impression on novices
and seasoned trekkers alike. Other hiking
options include The Western Uplands Trail
in Algonquin Park, the LaCloche Silhouette
Trail in Killarney, and more.
|
|
Cycling
Expeditions
There are many picturesque back roads and
trails jut waiting to be explored. Mennonite
country, the Niagara Escarpment, and the
Haliburton Highlands offer unique scenery
and things to discover. The time of year
and the goals of the group will determine
the trip location. Depending on the group’s
goals and experience we may use a chase
vehicle to support the expedition.
|
Winter
Expeditions
Winter weather brings new challenges. Many
activities that are considered routine and
taken for granted in summer now become extreme,
challenging and difficult. In most cases,
the distance one travels is less important
than completing daily living routines. Weather
permitting, our trips may involve snowshoeing,
cross-country skiing and sleeping in a Quincy
(snow shelter).

Keeping in mind the objectives
and requirements of the Residential Project, we
are prepared to assist in creating an experience
that promotes change, growth and personal achievement
through a program that takes participants out
of their comfort zones and introduces them to
new and exciting adventures.
6-Rivers Wilderness Adventures
will utilize a variety of activities and destinations
to guide participants through a series of personal
challenge initiatives, and leadership development
activities in addition to skill development.
